Klanglicht: Wayfinding

Competition — 2019

The Art of Eye Contact.

The “Klanglicht-Festival” is an event with a mixture of sound and light installations and takes place in the Austrian city Graz, two nights each year. 2019 they asked students to hand in an idea for their wayfinding system.

My concept is based on the hashtag of the festival: “#seethelight”.

I am very proud that equal to one other student group, I got honoured with the first prize.

The festival is known for its synthesis of sound and visual effects. “Klang” is the German word for sound and “Licht” means light.

My concept for the wayfinding system combines these two elements in one key visual. I took a note and enhanced it with a pupil and lashes. The pupil, supported by an arrow, indicates in what direction the visitor should go to find the next installation. It has a high recognition value and is quite different from other sign systems, therefore it is easy to spot throughout the city.
